Individuals can use the Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection or TAFCOP portal to see if someone is using a mobile number in their name without their knowledge.
Consumers can use the portal to report phone numbers that they no longer use or are required to report. The service is currently available in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and will be phased out over time.
Users who want to find out what numbers are being used in their name should go to https://www.tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in/ and enter their active mobile numbers. After logging in, they will then receive a one-time password (OTP.)
Consumers can use the portal to report numbers that they no longer use or that are no longer required. The telecom carrier providers will block or deactivate the unauthorized numbers after the numbers have been reported.
In other news, the government has established a national helpline, 155260, to assist users in avoiding online fraud. When victims call the state police helpline, a police operator records the fraud transaction details and the caller’s basic personal information and submits them in the form of a ticket to the Citizen Financial Cyber Frauds Reporting and Management System. Depending on whether the concerned banks, wallets, or merchants are the victim’s bank or the bank or wallet where the defrauded money has gone, the ticket is then escalated.
